Printmaker - Etchings & Monotypes
Nature - themed art can help us to remember our love for the beauty that exists around us, when we take a moment to open our eyes.. Something children do when they lay in the grasses and admire the sparkling dewdrops and wondering how did they get there.
As grown ups we have to work to remember these moments of being present in our live and with nature.
In my art I strive to create moments, so we remember, we tell those stories to our children and therefore are inspired to care for our natural world and the earth we are all sharing.
I am from germany, studied physics became an engineer and worked as a manager for an international computer company. After ten years in a cubicle I almost forget how magical live can be and I took a leap of faith with the support of fellow artists mentors to quit my job and create my own world.
Now I am living in the San Geronimo Valley in West Marin, where I have my studio and enjoy sharing my world and art. I am a member of the Red Umbrellas group and mainly exhibit in San Francisco and my work is collected worldwide.
I work with copper plates and engrave and acid etch the images into the plate. I handcolor my plates a la'poupee and print them with my handpress heavy weight Rives BFK paper. Sometime i use multiple plates and touch up the final print with iridescent water color. My editions are collected worldwide and limited to 150 per design, each of them a true original.
I started out as a painter discovered etchings and put the paintbrush aside. Now I am coming around full circle with my new Series of Hummingbird paintings. I work with acrylic, special varnishes and acrylic medium to create luminescent colors and on some painting add in three dimensional paint structures. The different layers of color and varnishes are bringing a glow to the painting, which a camera and computer screen does not realy capture.
